Making Money Online Should Come Secondary To Passion

I’ve been creating content online for over five years now. This website is only one of the sites I’ve created throughout my years. I’ve made podcasts, blogs, uploaded videos to Youtube, and even have gone as far as to creating my own blogging radio station. Throughout all of this I’ve definitely had some struggles, but have also learned a ton of valuable information that has assisted my in improving how I perform my daily online activities.

It’s only within the last year that I’ve begun to initiate monetization and advertising onto my websites. As you can see I haven’t begun monetizing this site, and I don’t plan to within the near future. I’ve decided to run an experiment on whether or not monetizing my blogs make a significant difference in the amount of loyal traffic that my sites receive. That’s not to say that I’ll not find some sort of income with this blog. I’m going to make a stronger attempt in adding a second track to my income stream.

This brings me to the point of this post.  Making money online should come secondary to the passion you have for creating content whether it be blogging, podcasting, or video production. This will get you into the habit of writing about something you love and receiving natural and reliable traffic. When you monetize your blog you’re leaving yourself the potential of writing for the ads, which in my personal experience, can lose you massive amounts of traffic in just days. Google and other search engines also look for content that’s original and helpful, not geared towards advertising programs such as Google Adsense and Yahoo Publisher.

The simple fact is, that if you focus your attention primarily on the content you produce the money will eventually naturally flow in. Just remember that it’s going to take time and you may end up failing the first few attempts. Keep at it and publish at a set frequency and be consistent with what you do.

Definition Of Blogging – It’s Not What It Used To Be

Blogging has grown by the millions in the last few years. Which is quite amazing considering it’s been duplicating exponentially in such a minimal period of time. When we first really saw the blog spring to life early after the millennium no one would’ve expected it to grow as much as it has amounted to today. It’s being used in countless ways now from blogging as a hobby to blogging as a legitimate method of generating revenue. With the introduction of making money with a blog it’s often debated as to whether the content of a blog can be trusted. I’ll continue with this thought later in the post.

Now if you researched the definition of a blog you’d find the answer to be quite obvious. Here’s Dictionary.com’s example:

an online diary; a personal chronological log of thoughts published on a Web page; also called Weblog, Web log

This characterization of a blog in dictionaries is in most professional opinions out of date. By saying this I’m not not suggesting that utilizing an “Internet journal” isn’t still happening today, however, it’s not as commonly used for the purpose of talking about thoughts and feelings. Modernly, it’s used for business purposes for releasing information to costumers. It’s also now being used by news organizations such as CNN and TechCrunch in the form of an online news paper. Many online shopping stores are now using it to promote products and advertise incentives they offer when you purchase their products. Examples like Amazon and NewEgg are only some of the many online businesses that have used blogging to their advantage.

Now I mentioned earlier that the accuracy and honesty of blogs have been discredited with the amount of money that can be made with them. This is because the publishers writing the articles aren’t always trying to benefit the reader with this information, they’re making a sales pitch for a product they’re affiliated with. What’s interesting though, is that these “affiliate blogs” have been receiving a substantial amount more attention than the regular blog. With that said, the answer to why this is done is very simple. It’s natural that human instincts cause us to care about oneself compared to another. Most people are interested in something that will benefit them. This is why affiliate blogs are so much more popular- they’re giving the reader something of value to them. Whereas a personal blog is a diary about one person and their life, their family, and their experiences. Blog Readers don’t look at these blogs for the simple fact that it’s not in their interests.

So what’s the definition of blogging then? To tell you the truth, you can’t really lay a precise definition on blogging. It’s been stretched, churned, and manipulated to a point where it can be thought of simply as content. There are plenty of platforms now available that allow the publication of content to be extremely simplified. Wordpress, Blogger, and Typepad are some of the most widely used platforms on the Internet right now.

People have also begun to monetize blogs with programs like Google Adsense and Yahoo Publisher. These programs allow advertisers to promote products by displaying relevant advertisements on your website with you being payed a percentage of what the ad program gets. These programs are another prime example of how blogging has transformed from a more personal experience to a business tool as well. I personally have used these programs to my advantage throughout my numerous websites in the previous years and have generated a descent amount of revenue. You can learn more about how I do this when you subscribe to my RSS feed.

All in all, blogging will never stay still. By this I mean that it will always evolve into new forms. We’re already seeing this phenomenon occur through micro-blogging and the emergence of  Twitter. One thing that will remain at a standstill though is the fact that content will continue to be produced in a variety of different shapes and forms.

How To Choose a Profitable Wordpess Blog Theme

The theme of your blog can sometimes be the most important component to becoming successful online. Usually, the design is the first thing a reader will notice when they first come to your blog, so it’s important to impress them right there in then. It’s been proven that bloggers who forget about the design of their template usually aren’t as successful than the people that have put time in to find an attractive looking template.

The design of a template can be also used to direct visitors to certain locations of your site. For example, most blogs have a big RSS sign sitting around the top right hand corner of their blog. This, you may not know, is actually strategically placed because readers tend to look in that corner. There’s no particular reason why they direct their attention that way, they just instinctively do. This is why it’s crucial to choose a blog design that will have an RSS icon graphically embedded directly into the template.

Another thing I look for when choosing an optimized template for my blog is the media intensity of the template. Choosing a design that overwhelms your readers with videos, pictures, and animations can turn visitors away quicker than you can say “RSS”. It’s important to limit the design to a reasonable standard. With that said, I previously mentioned that you need to make a good first impression. You can still keep your blog colourful, just don’t throw stuff in your readers face. There’s a fine line distinguishing what’s to much in regards to the design of the blog template.

Lastly, I want my blog to have easy access to links of my titles and the content itself. In order to have your blog discovered around the Internet it’s important to make it easy for your readers to do so. A few themes in the Wordpress theme directory unfortunately make this difficult as they use a picture in the place of a title, therefore, it’s impossible to simply copy and paste the title of the post.

It’s important to make decisions carefully when getting a Wordpress theme because it’s going to be one of the critical factors for readers in deciding whether they want to remain on your site or depart. One thing I also recommend doing is by testing your theme in different browsers (particularly in Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Safari) before making your theme permanent on your blog. Check to make sure there’s no broken html code and links also. If you can’t decide on a Wordpress theme try asking other people you may know and ask for their first impressions.

Methods To Attract Instant Traffic Quickly

I always have to tell people that there isn’t an exact method to generating traffic online instantly. The ultimate way to making a substantial income is by simply working hard and pumping out content regularly. However, people tend to ignore this and continue to search for instant ways to make money. So today I’m going to go over a couple of methods in which you can generate quick traffic to your blog by simply focusing on popular keywords.

The tool we use is Google Hot Trends. Google Hot Trends shows you the top 100 popular searches within the last hour. Most of these “hot topics” tend to be more entertainment related, however, if you’re willing to write a blog post not related to your particular niche or specific interest you should be fine.

Once you’re on Google Hot Trends and find the most popular keywords you choose one particularly in the top 10. Click on one of the keyword phrases and look at all the information about it. This will include related popular searches, information on how popular it is, and recent articles related to the keyphrase.

When you write your blog post about that particular keyphrase it’s important to include the related keywords and phrases recommended by Google Hot Trends. This will make your content more diversified, and overall, more search friendly in the Google search engine.

To get your information about the post you’re about to write use the articles already listed on Google Hot Trends related to the keyphrase. Of course, you’ll need this information to develop your blog post and make it as accurate as possible. With that said, it’s important to make sure your article is published as quickly as possible so that the search bots will index it quickly. Since we’re using an instant traffic technique you need to have your post on the Internet quickly before the topic you’re writing about loses popularity.

It’s important to remember that this solution isn’t permanent and it’s still recommended that you continue to gear your content towards long term traffic. This includes how-to articles, reviews on products, and other common article types. This “instant” solution only lasts a couple of days (maximum), most times it will barely last a few hours so it’s important to be quick when publishing your content.

How To Make Written Content More Attractive To Readers

It’s still a common struggle that many people face when trying to develop a presence online. People, unfortunately, are set on making money and forget that there are a few things that are needed before you can get to that stage. One of the most important steps you should do before even thinking about developing an income is focus on the content that you create. The content is what’s going to drive traffic to your website. Without any traffic flowing regularly to your blog it’s going to be extremely difficult to generate revenue from that traffic. It’s quite simple- The more traffic you have, the more money you make.

I constantly have to remind people that they need to focus more on the content. The problem with this is that a majority of bloggers think of the Internet as a way to get rich quick. Once they figure out that it isn’t they give up, which is the biggest mistake they can make. You see, I have numerous blogs, all generating small amounts of money that add up to one large substantial income. This didn’t happen over night. In fact, I’ve been working at this for over two years and have still not met my goals.

There are a few ways in which you can make content more attractive to your readers. With that said, it’s important that you develop your own style of writing. This is because readers want their information given to them truthfully and not fraudulently through sales pitches. What you say to your readers needs to be honest and right from the heart. If you aren’t doing this you need to rethink what your goal is with blogging.

Another thing that I find increases the readership of not only a single post, but the blog itself is by speaking in first person. Speaking in a first person format means that you’re talking about yourself, moreover, you’re talking about your own personal experiences and thoughts about a particular subject. This can be especially useful when you’re promoting an affiliate product. Blog readers want to know your experiences with a product before they spend their money. They’re not going to spend money on something that has poor reviews. Speaking in first person will let the readers know that you’re speaking from your own experiences with the product and not simply explaining what the product is about.

Making your articles and posts more popular with your readers also requires professionalism. It really turns off readers when they have to figure out what you’re trying to say because of your constant misspellings and confusing grammar. One of the things that I really frown upon is the fact that people neglect to use spell check. Attractive articles need to be well developed with standard essay formats, correct spelling and grammar, and organized paragraphs. Without this you run the risk of losing readers and subscribers.

Also, lately I’ve noticed that post length makes a huge impact on weather a reader will decide on reading a post. I personally try to keep articles over 300 words long. Any shorter, the reader will potentially feel that you’re wasting their time. However, it’s important to know that the quality of the post is always more important than the length. If you have a well structured article it will probably get more attention in comparison to a long confusing post.

In conclusion, in order to get loyal readers you’re going to have to give them a reason to return. A great way to decide if your website is attractive enough is by asking yourself whether you’d read your own posts. Some bloggers also try to promote incentives. This may work depending on what type of audience you have. All in all, make sure that your content is well developed and well designed. It can take a few days, couple months, or even a few years for your readers to catch on. Just keep at it and don’t give up.

Why A Post Schedule Is Crucial To Your Blogs Success

Many people who blog refrain from creating a schedule or a set frequency in which they can post. It’s common for people to just post an article whenever it beneifts them. The problem is, when you’re blogging for money, what you do needs to benefit the reader and not you. If you want to make a substantial impact on the internet writing one single post every couple weeks just isn’t going to cut it. Putting the nessesary time into your articles is a critical component to creating an attractive blog, and one that people are going to want to subscribe to.

Blogging at a set frequency doesn’t nessesarily mean taking the time everyday to write an article. Most people, including myself have a set day in which they’ll write all of the articles for the upcoming week. Then they use Wordpress’s timestamp feature to release the post at a certain date and time. For people who really don’t have the time to put into their blog everyday they can really use the timestamp feature to their advantage.

If you have high expectations of the success of your blog the solution is simple. Put in the necessary work at a set frequency for an extended amount of time and you’ll get your wish. People look at blogging as a get rich quick scheme and unfortunately I’m forced to tell them otherwise. What really disappoints me is that when people see this they tend to give up on blogging and don’t put any effort in whatsoever.

In conclusion, it’s really not difficult to create habits and schedules when you blog. Try creating a schedule on Google Calendar and stick to it. If you don’t have any blog post ideas try getting into the habit of mind mapping or by creating a web of ideas. Just remember, the key to having a successful website is by maintaining continuous content and publishing on a regular basis.
